Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)

Successful completion of the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is a prerequisite for admission into EMT-Basic, Advanced EMT or paramedic training in South Carolina. The TEAS measures an individual's ability in mathematics and science reading comprehension. A minimum NET Composite Percentage score of 50% AND a minimum Composite Reading score of 50% are required for admission into an EMT-Basic, Advanced EMT or Paramedic course.

TEAS exams are scheduled individually by appointment during regular business hours at the Lowcountry Regional EMS Council and the cost is $45.00. The test is administered on computer and normally takes 1½ to 2 hours to complete. The results will be available immediately upon completion of the exam. The TEAS may also be taken on paper, however it must be mailed to ATI for scoring and the results will be received in 1 week. Contact us to schedule your TEAS exam. Those needing accommodation on the TEAS under the Americans with Disabilities Act should contact the Director of Education to learn how to file their request.

The purpose of the TEAS is to identify any problem areas before training begins so that students can obtain remediation and have a much greater chance of success in their efforts. It is important that anyone considering enrollment in an EMT-Basic, Advanced EMT or Paramedic course take the TEAS as soon as possible so that any problem areas identified can be addressed in time to qualify for admission. More information on the TEAS is available at ATI Allied Healthcare.
